The government has announced its firm intention that the elections will go ahead as planned on the 6th May.  The good news is that we have some excellent candidates who have come forward and there will be an opportunity for members to meet them in the forthcoming branch meetings.   As well, many of you will already know Ben Twomey, Labour’s excellent candidate for Warwickshire Police Commissioner.

The not so good news is that the confirmation of the date in May means we are not going to be able to organise normal campaign activities during the Covid lockdown.  Not to be deterred, however, we are starting to make the most of opportunities to canvass remotely.   Already volunteers have been getting to grips with the Party’s new system for canvassing by telephone which has been getting rave reviews for being safe and simple to use.

At the same time we are preparing for when the lockdown is finally over.  This is likely to leave us very little time to start more conventional campaigning so we are going to need as many volunteers as possible if we are to make a real impact in the short window of opportunity we are likely to have.

If you would be willing to assist with any aspect of our campaign (eg. by helping with telephone canvassing, delivering leaflets, door knocking, helping with street stalls, joining our focus group etc) then we would really appreciate hearing from you, no matter what you would feel comfortable doing or how much time you can offer.  Please contact, in the first instance, Jonathan Baker, CLP Vice Chair: Campaigns, at vccampaigns@stratfordlabour.org.uk
