Stratford Town Branch
Stratford Town Branch

Stratford upon Avon Constituency Labour Party is divided into three Branches.  If you live in any of the wards listed below which make up Stratford Town, then you are automatically a member of the Stratford Town Branch:

Avenue, Hathaway, Bishopton, Shottery, Bridgetown, Tiddington, Clopton, Welcombe, Guildhall

The Branch Team members (see below) are committed to operating in an open and inclusive way, ensuring that all members are welcome.  Members are encouraged to take part in Branch activities which normaly include meetings, fund raising, campaigning and social events.  Obviously our activities are limited during the Covid pandemic and meetings are being held via Zoom.

County Council Elections 2021:

Many thanks to the members who stood for election in the three County Council Divisions in Stratford Town on May 6th.  Sam Scott stood in Stratford North, Alexander Monk in Stratford South, and Wayne Bates in Stratford West.

The next elections are for District councillors in 2023.  In addition to serious candidates to stand in wards where will be leafletting and canvassing, we will need several ‘paper’ candidates.  Paper candidates stand in wards where we will not be actively campaigning but ensure that there is a Labour Party candidate on the ballot paper.

If you are interested in being a candidate, either paper or serious, in a future election please let us know by email: .

Branch Meetings:

Branch meetings are held four times a year and in the recent past guest speakers have included county councillors, our Police and Crime Commissioner candidate and people working with housing and homelessness issues.  The next Branch meeting will be a Zoom meeting as follows:

Wednesday 6th October 2021 at 7.30 p.m.

Our speaker will be Dr John Lister who will be talking about the Health and Care Bill going through Parliament at present

Dr Lister is author of two books on international health reform: ‘Health Policy Reform, Driving the Wrong Way’ and ‘The NHS After 60, for Patients or Profits’ and he is a founder member of Keep our National Health Service Public.

Critics say that the Health and Care Bill will mean another top-down restructuring of the NHS, reducing local influence and increasing the scope for privatisation.

Branch Online Quiz 24th September 2021

Thanks to all who supported our fundraising quiz. Ten teams involving forty quizzers competed for the prestigious honour of being Branch Quiz Champions 2021, plus a bottle of wine each!

The winners were ‘That is the Question’, closely followed by runners up ‘Bye Boris’.  ‘Bears and Pears’ and ‘Fences on Mars’ finished joint third.

Thanks to everyone’s generosity over £200 was raised for CLP campaign funds.
